Opportunities
There are numerous opportunities for increasing remanufacturing and reuse. Some of these opportunities can be explored below.
Circular Economy
Increasing awareness of the benefits of a transition away from the linear make-use-dispose economy towards a more circular economy presents an opportunity for remanufacturing - an important circular economy strategy.
New business models
Remanufacturing can be incorporated in a range of new business models, including service-based business models, which promote the development of closer relationships between the customer and the remanufacturer.
Standards
There are increasing calls for remanufacturing processes and terminology to be standardised to allow true remanufacturing to be distinguished from other activities. Standards could help increase the demand for remanufactured products.
Re-shoring
For some products, which are not produced locally due to high labour costs, the reduced logistical burden of localised remanufacturing may enable re-shoring of production.
EPR
Remanfacturing can help enable Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) by providing an alternative, and possibly profitable, end-of-life disposal route.
